Authentic Margherita Pizza: Original Italian Recipe

The classic Neapolitan pizza with tomato, mozzarella and basil

History:

Created in 1889 in honor of Queen Margherita of Savoy, its colors (red, white, and green) represent the Italian flag.

Ingredients (for 1 pizza):

  • 200g Neapolitan dough
  • 80g San Marzano tomato sauce
  • 125g buffalo mozzarella
  • 5 fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and olive oil

Preparation:

  1. Base: Stretch the dough with your hands (no rolling pin!).
  2. Cooking: Bake in a wood-fired oven at 400°C for 90 seconds.
  3. Final touch: Add fresh basil when serving.
